Marina di Praia or La Gavitella: Choosing Your Praiano Departure Point

Praiano is one of the few villages on the Amalfi Coast with two separate access points to the sea, and knowing the difference between them makes the start of any boat tour smoother. Marina di Praia: the historic little harbour

Tucked into a narrow cleft in the cliffs, Marina di Praia is Praiano’s traditional fishing marina and the departure point for most boat tours. The small pebble beach, the handful of restaurants and the old boathouses give it a genuinely local feel, and the sheltered inlet makes boarding easy even when the open sea is livelier. From here you are only minutes from the Grotta dell’Africana sea cave and a short cruise from the Fiordo di Furore to the east.

La Gavitella: sun until sunset

On the western side of the village, La Gavitella faces the open sea and Positano, which means it catches the sun all the way to sunset — a rarity on this stretch of coast. It is reached by a long clifftop stairway (or the panoramic lift, when in service), so it rewards a little extra time, but the light and the views over Positano make it worthwhile, especially for late-afternoon and sunset departures.
